SEASON OVERVIEW:
A Creation of Greg Garcia (Family Guy, Raising Hope), the sitcom examines closely the life of a suburban redneck named Earl Hickey (Jason Lee, Memphis Beat, Up All Night), who sets out to atone for all the misdeeds of his life, ranging from petty crime and vandalism to bedraggling and beating up kids at school. At the first onset, Earl portrays himself as the kind of guy you bump into at a convenience store in the small hours of the morning buying cigarettes, scratch-off lottery tickets and a can of beer. One day, he strikes it lucky. Sad to say, the fortune slips between his fingers. He gets hit by a car and loses the winning lottery ticket.
Lying in a hospital bed, under the influence of morphine, Earl has an epiphany triggered by an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly. After hearing the show’s host talk about karma, he decides to change. Without further ado, Earl embarks on a journey to right all his wrongs.
As a starter, our hero draws up the inventory of his mistakes. Accompanied by his adorable but otherwise useless, chubby brother, Randy (Ethan Suplee, Entourage, Wilfred), and their new sidekick, Catalina Aruca (Nadine Velazquez, CSI: NY, Scrubs), a beautiful hotel chambermaid, Earl sets out on his first serious mission, to track down a man he bullied as a child. After throwing his bread upon the water, he finds the $100,000 lottery ticket he previously lost. Thinking that karma rewarded him for his commitment, Earl uses his newfound wealth to do more good deeds.
Carlton “Carl” Hickey (Beau Bridges, Desperate Housewives, White Collar), Earl and Randy’s father, is sorely disappointed in his sons. He lays the blame for their troubled relationship at Earl’s door. However, as the series progresses, he realizes his son’s efforts to improve his life are sincere. Although she is also disenchanted with Earl and Randy, Katherine “Kay” Hickey (Nancy Lenehan, Nip/Tuck, The New Adventures of Old Christine), the boys’ mother, is more tolerant than Carl. She is happy Earl’s life takes a turn for the better.
My Name is Earl abounds in side-splitting jokes and colourful secondary characters.
In a few words, it is askew, scruffy and unexpectedly touching. Have fun!
