SEASON OVERVIEW:
A For two decades, Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton, The West Wing, 24) dominated the country music scene. Although she struggles to keep up with the times and survive the new wave of artists by reinventing herself, her record label rethinks its strategy and comes up with a new arrangement. The established music legend has to share the stage with Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Heroes), the young, sexy, sassy and best-selling bubble gum country singer, for a joint tour. However, the two agree like cats and dogs. The newbie is determined to give the veteran the bum’s rush. More than that, even offstage, things take a turn for the worse. No wonder that Rayna is in the doldrums.
Lamar Wyatt (Powers Boothe, Justice League, Deadwood), Rayna’s father and Nashville’s most influential businessman and politician, makes her life hell. Their already rocky relationship reaches the meltdown point when he and her sister, Tandy (Judith Hoag, Private Practice, Criminal Minds), push Teddy Conrad (Eric Close, Without a Trace, Suits), Rayna’s husband, to run for mayor. Naturally, the hubby seizes his opportunity to share the spotlight with his wife. Artistically, Nashville abounds in hopefuls… Among them rank Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten, The Mentalist, NCIS: Los Angeles), Rayna’s former lover and lead guitar player, who chose to choke his dreams and feelings and stand by her, Scarlett O’Connor (Clare Bowen, All Saints, Home and Away), a beautiful and gifted songwriter, who is unsure of her immense talent, Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson, General Hospital, One Tree Hill), an aspiring musician with a bad-boy streak and Gunnar Scott (Sam Palladio, Doctors, Episodes), an up-and-coming crooner, who rows in the same boat with Scarlett, coming in between her relationship with Avery.
Nashville shows the simple viewer what it really means to become a star and stay one.
One thing is for sure, it is no bed of roses.
