SEASON OVERVIEW:
On the surface, Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette, True Romance, Stigmata) seems like any other devoted wife and proud mother of three beautiful girls. Endowed with the ability to read other people’s thoughts and communicate with the dead while awake, as well as witness past or future events in her dreams, she makes the most of it.
Since her paranormal encounters and puzzling visions usually involve the victim of a murder or a culprit, Allison presents her service to Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval, The Closer, Entourage), the District Attorney of Phoenix, Arizona. However, convincing him and the other doubters in the criminal justice system that her psychic abilities hold the key to the violent and horrifying cases they deal with is a hard row to hoe.
During the police investigations, Allison often assists Detective Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt, The X-Files, The Eleventh Hour), who initially doesn’t believe her gift is real. As the series progresses, she gains the trust of both District Attorney Devalos and Detective Scanlon. The tide turns and they come to look to Allison for help. The ones who are with her all the way are Kenneth Push (Arliss Howard, Awake, The Time Traveler’s Wife), the Captain of the Texas Rangers and the first law enforcement officer to whom Allison revealed her psychic abilities, and Cynthia Keener (Anjelica Huston, The Addams Family, Iron Jawed Angels), an investigator for AmeriTips, a nationwide private detective agency. Still, Allison must keep her powers secret. As likely as not, the courts and authorities wouldn’t take them as legitimate.
With the help of her husband, Joe DuBois (Jake Weber, Royal Pains, House), an aerospace engineer, Allison managed to find the perfect balance between her supernatural and personal life. More than that, the two discover that their daughters inherited her gift. While Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva) and Bridgette (Maria Lark), the first and second born siblings, have visions which usually occur when their mother is searching for answers to her own dreams, Marie (Madison and Miranda Carabello), the youngest daughter, involuntarily reads people’s thoughts and uses paper dolls to predict the future.
