SEASON OVERVIEW:
An awkward date, a PTA meeting gone wrong, the middle-aged men preoccupied with getting old or people chewing the rag on hot-button issues, including political extremism, race, sexual orientation and religion, underlie comedy scenarios. We’ve all seen this kind of stage plays before, perhaps too many times. However, in the series created, penciled, directed and produced by Louis C.K. (Parks and Recreation), the protagonist juggles these situations with a wry, original wit that makes them fresh and screamingly funny again. A complete showman, the Mexican American stand-up comedian also portrays our hero… he actually plays a version of himself. All these things being said, meet Louie, a comic onstage and a recently divorced father of two daughters offstage!
Each episode pictures two vignettes that may or may not be related to each other. Every story paints a puzzled Louie mentally scrutinizing day-to-day situations, not just to catch what’s funny about them but to try to unriddle the mysteries of human nature. After getting the hook, he takes a gloomy view of his life and has woman problems. However, it’s impossible not to laugh with Louie as he gets into one drippy scrape after another. Although he strikes a bad patch, he is smart enough to make a lot of jokes at his own expense.
Among the characters who spice up Louie’s life rank his two daughters, Lilly (Hadley Delany) and Jane (Ursula Parker), Louie’s brother, Robbie (Robert Kelly, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), the play date friend and potential love interest, Pamela (Pamela Adlon, Californication), Louie’s crude and giddy doctor, Ben Mitchell (Ricky Gervais, The Simpsons), his therapist (David Patrick Kelly, Gossip Girl) and his ex-wife, Susan (Susan Kelechi Watson, NCIS).
Nothing is taboo in this show. Get out of the rut and have a jolly good time with Louie!
