SEASON OVERVIEW:
Having a look of Battlestar Galactica, Defiance is an ambitious and creative science fiction series set in the near future, when aliens collectively known as Votans came to Earth seeking a new home after their star system was destroyed in a stellar collision. In the year 2046, the planet is unrecognizable. Following a disastrous global conflict which sparked between humans and several extraterrestrial races, the landscape is completely altered and terraformed. Apparently, during the war, the Ark fleet which transported the aliens mysteriously exploded and unleashed chaotic and radical changes to the biosphere and the geology of Earth, making the planet dangerous to both humans and the extraterrestrial species.

In a burgeoning mining town named Defiance, sat atop the ruins of St. Louis, Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler, Ugly Betty, GCB), a brash new Law Keeper and his smart, independent and feisty adopted alien daughter, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas, The Bill, Eternal Law), try to keep peace amid clashing alien cultures. The city is closely overseen by the Mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz, Supernatural, Dexter) and inhabited by residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene, Numb3rs, Being Erica), the owner and operator of the largest mine in the territory, Amanda’ self-assured sister, Kenya (Mia Kirshner, CSI: NY, The Vampire Diaries), the proprietress of the NeedWant, the town’s bar and brothel, and the ambitious Datak Tarr (Tony Curran, Medium, Doctor Who), the primary figure in Defiance’s underworld, and his wife, Stahma (Jaime Murray, Spartacus, Warehouse 13). When they least expect it, some strange events begin to unfold threatening the fragile peace this border town has fought for.
