SEASON OVERVIEW:
An impressively built legal thriller, Damages revolves around the brilliant, powerful, ruthless and charismatic lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close, The Simpsons, The West Wing) and her protégée Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne, Fallen Angels, Murder Call). Patty is one of the country’s most feared litigators, a woman who is willing to go to extreme, even illegal and unethical, lengths to win her case. She and her right-hand man, Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan, Gossip Girl, Glee) can withstand just about any opponent, in or out of court.
Hewes and Associates hold a brief for a group of revolted employees in a class-action lawsuit against a gruff billionaire, Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson, Curb Your Enthusiasm, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation). He ran his company into the ground and deprived his employees of their retirements and benefits. The tycoon relies on Ray Fiske (Željko Ivanek, 24, Bones). He warrants that his attorney will revarnish his reputation. There’s thunder in the air… The stakes are high and neither side plays by the rules. Ellen must find evidence that Arthur Frobisher used inside information to sell his stock just before the news of his firm’s rackets hit the market. As the rookie gives herself more and more to the case, her relationship with her fiancé, David Connor (Noah Bean, Numb3rs, Private Practice), becomes strained. More than that, it turns out that Katie Connor (Anastasia Griffith, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Medium), David’s sister, is an important witness in the case.
Although she does her best to skirt the edge of what is unethical, Ellen comes to cross that line. Eventually, she realizes that her dream job might not be what it seems. Is it too late to retrace her steps? It remains to be seen…
