SEASON OVERVIEW:
Begotten by writer Constance M. Burge (Ally McBeal, Royal Pains), the supernatural drama centers on the crazy, hectic life of three sisters. After the death of their grandmother, Penelope Halliwell or “Grams” (Jennifer Rhodes, Friends, The Mentalist), Prudence, Piper and Phoebe move back into the family’s manor. A prying missy, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano, Family Guy, Castle) gives the attic a good rummage and stumbles upon an ancient book. Without further ceremony, she reads aloud an inscription which unleashes their dormant powers and transforms them into The Charmed Ones… the most powerful witches the world has ever known. For some, finding their destiny is an easy thing. However, every bullet has its billet. They were meant to protect the innocents from demons, warlocks and other malefic creatures.
Each sister has a unique gift. More than that, they can cast spells and brew potions. Prue (Shannen Doherty, Life Goes On, 90210), the eldest, has the power of telekinesis (the ability to move objects with her mind). Strong-willed, quick-tempered and intelligent, she is used to rule the roost. Prue tends to be overprotective of her sisters, Piper and Phoebe, because, after the death of their mother, Patricia (Finola Hughes, All My Children, CSI: NY), she was forced to grow up quickly and take care of her two younger sisters. Although once in a while Prue falls prey to her pride, she never lets her personal life interfere with her work life. Piper (Holly Marie Combs, Picket Fences, Pretty Little Liars), the middle sister, has the power to literally freeze people and objects. With the lapse of time, she learns to control her ability and freeze only certain people or objects or body parts, arbitrarily. Quiet and reserved, she is more concerned with leading a normal life than embracing her destiny as a Charmed One. Phoebe, the youngest, initially has the power of premonition which grows into being able to see into the past as well as into the future. Since her ability is based more on emotions, some demons don’t consider her a threat. However, when they are together, they are invincible. As the series progresses, the sisters gain new powers.
After numberless encounters with various evil beings, the trio discovers that their true enemy is The Underworld’s ruler, the Source of All Evil (portrayed by Michael Bailey Smith, Bennet Guillory and Peter Woodward over the course of the series). Besides the supernatural adventures, they have to contend with serious issues in the day-to-day world of the earthling… such as relationships, careers, marriage, childbirth, illness and the deaths of their loved ones.
The sisters also do their best to keep their calling under lock and key. Unfortunately, they come to be art and part in several police and FBI investigations. How will their quest conclude? It remains to be seen…
