SEASON OVERVIEW:
As Albert Einstein once said, “pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas”. Strangely enough, this abstract science also provides answers to the most puzzling questions which sail over some of the hardest criminal investigations. Created by Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton, Numb3rs follows FBI Special Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow, Entourage, The Whole Truth) and his mathematical genius brother Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Newsroom) as they tackle the most baffled criminal cases from a very distinctive perspective. Thus and so, Los Angeles’ FBI department, the scientists at the California Institute of Science (CalSci) and the Eppes family join forces to fight crime.
The eldest son of Alan Eppes (Judd Hirsch, American Dad!, Damages) and Margaret Mann-Eppes (JoBeth Williams, Dexter, Private Practice) Don is wedded to his work. A hard taskmaster, he likes to rule the roost and rarely shows mercy to someone. Over the years, Don and Charlie have had their differences. Don feels like he is living in the shadow of his genius brother. Therefore, he often shrinks from asking Charlie’s help.
A prodigy, the cadet yearns to touch a deep chord in Don’s heart rather than get fame. Assisted by Larry Fleinhardt (Peter MacNicol, 24, Grey’s Anatomy), his best friend, mentor and colleague, and Amita Ramanujan (Navi Rawat, Flash Forward, Burn Notice), his on-again, off-again girlfriend and former student, Charlie helps his brother solve a whole lot of his many-sided FBI cases… Larry is a brilliant theoretical physicist and cosmologist, who doesn’t feel comfortable in social situations. His students described him as “boring and intellectually inaccessible”. He frequently expresses his wish that his friend would continue with academia rather than consult with the FBI. A professor of Indian origin at CalSci who knows a thing or two about asymptotic combinatorics, Amita assists Charlie with various mathematical problems. She is the best programmer Larry and Charlie know.
Don’s team also includes fellow agents David Sinclair (Alimi Ballard, NCIS, Rizzoli & Isles), a bomb disposal expert who grew up in the Bronx dodging gangs to get an education, Colby Granger (Dylan Bruno, Bones, The Mentalist), an Army veteran who did a tour of duty with the Criminal Investigation Division in Afghanistan, Megan Reeves (Diane Farr, Californication, White Collar), a profiler and one of the best marksmen on the squad who serves as the head of the team when Don is away, Liz Warner (Aya Sumika, Hawaii, The O.C.), a special agent who is also a former love interest of Don’s, and newest agent Nikki Betancourt (Sophina Brown, Shark, NCIS: Los Angeles), a tough, street-smart ex-LAPD officer. Alan, Don and Charlie’s father, is proud to see his sons working together and keeps himself busy by getting involved in their personal lives and careers.
