From the executive producers of 24 and Arrested Development and writer Samuel Baum comes a drama series inspired by Dr. Paul Ekman, a psychologist and expert on body language and facial expressions at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth, Rob Roy, The War Zone) examines closely every clue embedded in the human body, face and voice to expose the truth in criminal investigations. Being a human lie detector and having the help of his team of psychologists and researchers, he manages to uncover even the deepest secrets and crack the hardest cases. This genius makes no secret of being an MI6 Intelligence Agent during the Yugoslav Wars in 1994. More than that, he used to interrogate IRA members.
A founder of The Lightman Group, a private company that operates as an independent contractor to assist investigations of local and federal law enforcement through applied psychology, he built up an extraordinary team. A gifted psychologist and Cal’s professional partner, Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams, Criminal Minds, Army Wives), is a sagacious woman whose guidance he needs. Cal’s lead researcher, Will Loker (Brendan Hines, Scandal, Beauty and the Beast) is so aware of the human tendency to lie that he decided to uncomplicate matters and practice what he calls “radical honesty”… he says everything on his mind at all times. The newest member of the squad, Ria Torres (Monica Raymund, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Good Wife), arrives at the truth differently by acting more on instinct and using her natural ability to read body language and catch clues. The one who wass assigned to offer the Lightman Group armed assistance and practical insights is FBI Agent Ben Reynolds (Mekhi Phifer, Psych, White Collar). Although he doesn’t always agree with Lightman’s methods, he backs him up all the time.
