SEASON OVERVIEW:
Although it may not have the vindictiveness of Burn Notice or the bromantic persiflage of White Collar, USA’s female-driven action drama is smart, fun and totally addictive. Executive produced by Doug Liman (the Bourne trilogy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Covert Affairs follows Anne Catherine “Annie” Walker (Piper Perabo, House, Go On), a promising CIA trainee, who is prematurely called to active duty because the agency needs a Russian speaker to debrief a Muscovite turncoat ready to sell secrets. On her first day, Annie finds allies at the at the Domestic Protection Division (DPD), where she serves as a field agent, but she also stumbles upon all kinds of power struggles.
Annie’s guide in her new life is August “Auggie” Anderson (Christopher Gorham, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Ugly Betty), the head of Technical Operations, who was forced out of fieldwork after being blinded during a mission with Army Special Forces in Iraq. An athletic, brilliant, loyal and quick-witted man, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the CIA’s protocol and inner workings. Annie’s chilly supervisor, Joan Campbell (Kari Matchett, Saving Hope, Elementary), a senior officer who holds the reins of the Domestic Protection Division (DPD), is caught in a turf battle with Arthur Campbell (Peter Gallagher, Family Guy, Rescue Me), the director of the National Clandestine Service (NCS). Their competition reaches into the bedroom… the two are married, but most of the time they are at daggers drawn.
While grappling with office politics and ruthless enemies of the state, Annie also does her utmost to maintain her cover as a civilian. She lives in the guest house of her older sister, Danielle Brooks (Anne Dudek, Mad Men, Castle), who thinks the cadet has a boring job at the Smithsonian Museum and needs to find a nice man. In the meantime, Annie can’t dismiss from her thoughts a steamy love affair in Sri Lanka that came to an abrupt end.
